Lycosura (Greek, Ancient: Λυκόσουρα, Modern: Palaeokastro or Siderokastro) was a city of Arcadia reputed to be the most ancient city in Greece and, indeed, the world. Its current significance is chiefly associated with the sanctuary of the goddess Despoina, which contained a colossal sculptural group perhaps made by Damophon of Messene; this group comprises acrolithic-technique statues of Despoina and Demeter seated on a throne, with statues of Artemis and the Titan Anytus standing on either side of them - all in Pentelic marble. The dates of both the temple and the sculptural group have occasioned some dispute. Remains of a stoa, altars and other structures have also been found. The Sanctuary of Despoina at Lycosoura is located 9 km WSW of Megalopolis, 6.9 km SSE of Mt. Lykaion, and 160 km SW of Athens. There is a small museum at the archaeological site housing small finds as well as part of the cult group, while the remains of the cult statues of Despoina and Demeter are displayed at the National Archaeological Museum of Athens.

About Hunting Blinds

Types

Hunting blinds come in a variety of types for different types of hunting. There are deer blinds for hunting deer and duck blinds for hunting ducks and geese. They range from very simple structures to incredibly complex structures.

The design of the blind distinguishes the different types of deer blinds. They are called deer blinds even though they can also be used for hunting waterfowl and wild turkeys. The classifications are natural blinds, box blinds, pop-up blinds, tower blinds and tripod blinds.

Duck blinds also come in a variety of styles. The most common categories of duck blinds include water-based, land-based, temporary and permanent. They range in size from a small one-man blind to a blind that will hold a few hunters as well as their boat, vehicle and dog.

Blinds made of natural material such as a ditch, ravine or a hay bale are simple blinds. The more specialized blinds are structures made out of metal or PVC pipe, are weather proof and provide comfort such as warmth.

Blinds range from simple natural blinds to pop-up-style blinds that are easy to move to the box tower stands that are permanently fixed to one spot.

Function

Concealing a hunter from the view of a deer and reducing noise and scent are some of the functions of a deer blind. The most important asset a hunter can have is the element of surprise.

Features

Temporary blinds are mobile and are especially useful in case the ducks have moved to another area to find more food or because the hunters have overhunted the area. The temporary or portable blind can be anything from a coffin blind, a camo net, a pop-up or something as sophisticated as a duck boat blind or hiding in a decoy.

Permanent blinds include water blinds that are built on stilts to box blinds that built on land. These types of blinds usually have seat, roof and a floor. The roof can be a partial roof made of the same material as the blind or a camo mesh so that the hunters are able to shoot out of them.

Benefits

Hunting is more fun and rewarding as hunters discover the benefits of using blinds, causing them to become increasingly popular. The variety of blinds as well as the added comfort of the blinds ensure that the use of blinds will continue to thrive.

Warning

Blinds should be inspected before use to ensure that they are in good condition. If signs of abrasion, damage, defects or excessive wear are found, the blind should not be used.

Blinds should be used only for their intended purpose.

Store your blind in a cool dry place.

Do not leave blind outside for long periods of time to avoid premature weather damage.
